从二十国集团巴厘岛峰会（G20），到在泰国曼谷举行的亚太经济合作会议（APEC），世界领袖的聚会成为媒体的聚焦点，而其中最令人关注的莫过于美国总统拜登与中国国家主席习近平。这是疫情大流行以来，习近平首次与西方领袖见面。在拜登和澳洲总理阿尔巴尼斯（Antony Albanese）先后与习近平在巴厘岛会晤后，澳洲媒体评论道，这次与中国的见面再次说明了，“我们已经不在国际的标准和规则下生存，而是以权力来摆放前后位置”。
习近平仍是习近平
11月16日，澳广ABC的报道直言不讳地说：“拜登和阿尔巴尼斯先后与习近平坐下来会晤，并不是因为国际邦交抑或相互间的投机，只是因为习近平的权力。 ”
世界必须面对的是，习近平仍是习近平，那位被指责是新疆种族的灭绝者，那位试图武力侵犯台湾的主使，那位打破香港一国两治承诺，被拜登总统称为打手和暴徒的人；那位称普京为好友、支持俄罗斯侵略乌克兰的人。
报道称，阿尔巴尼斯在会谈之后表示，澳洲没有改变我们的价值，只是用一种更“成熟”的方式、而不是“政治”的角度与中国会晤，他称，与习谈论了许多问题包括对澳洲的经济制裁，澳洲公民在中国受到关押，台湾问题，气候问题以及新疆的人权问题等，但外界不知道习近平是如何回应的。不过令澳洲忧心会“触怒”北京的澳英美核子潜艇协议（ＡＵＫＵＳ）和澳印美日四方联盟（Ｑｕａｄ）居然在与会上并没有提及。
11月8日，习近平以中共总书记、中央军委主席、军委联指总指挥身份，视察中央军委联合作战指挥中心，他身穿新式迷彩军装，向解放军军官喊话，要求部队“全部精力向打仗聚焦，全部工作向打仗用劲，加快提高打赢能力。”
澳媒分析道，对中国来说，目前没有比拿下台湾更迫在眉睫的了，无论在与澳美会晤中谈了什么，应该都没有办法改变习近平要用一统台湾作为确立国际地位的路线。也就是说，尽管两国元首会谈了，但实际上并没有任何承诺或改变任何事情。
虽然阿尔巴尼斯总理沾沾自喜的称，AUKUS核潜艇协议在11月15日与习的会晤中没有提及，但中共喉舌环球时报在几日后的11月19日发文表示，“AUKUS就是阻碍了中澳关系改善的屏障”，直指，“如果堪培拉无视北京对AUKUS的担忧，这个协议仍将是中澳关系的一根刺，也可能破坏双边关系的健康发展。” 阿尔巴尼斯对此回应道，“没什么可意外的”，他表示，澳洲可以与重要的盟友英国和美国达成任何共识，核子潜艇也将改善澳洲的安全。
外界分析称，由于近年来澳美的联盟才促成了澳中的会面，中国希望谈的是美国，却由于前美国总统川普的政策，美国对华为的咬紧不放，对中国实施关税制裁，外企大规模撤资等，已经让中国在经济上感到巨大的压力，因此可以说，这次是中国希望与美国会晤，“惠及”澳洲也就顺便与阿尔巴尼斯见面了。
修复中的澳中关系
回到澳中关系，阿尔巴尼斯在5月大选前曾扬言，“中国已经改变了”，以及“他们会前倾聆听我们澳洲的价值观”。但在ABC的报道中评论说，现在的阿尔巴尼斯似乎改口了，他称没有必要为了澳洲的利益或国内的政治观点来反抗北京。
习近平也为对澳洲经济制裁的失败找了一个台阶，他希望与会的每个人都认为，这次与澳大利亚的会晤是因为“澳大利亚变了”，而不是中国。ABC评论道，习近平永远不会承认这两年半对澳洲切断联系和实施贸易惩罚的战略是失败的。
澳洲前外交部长Julie Bishop指出，在阿尔巴尼斯与习近平会晤之后，在修复与中国的关系上，澳洲的取舍是“棘手”的。
据9号新闻报道称， Bishop称与中国的会晤在修复澳中关系上的第一步是相当不错的，但堪培拉却开始要面对棘手的后续了。
除了经济和利益，在其他方面上，澳洲和中国几乎是背道而驰的，无论是中国在南海地区不断扩张的野心，还是与所罗门国的安全协议，澳中两国是争锋相对的。两国领袖在2016年之后就没有见过面，Bishop认为，或许工党政府应该越过双方的冲突区域，试著找出对两国都有利益的地方进行发展。

新西兰前总理JOHN KEY也在澳洲人报上发文称，“中国的经济发展已经改变了我们的经济走向”。这样的结论虽然来自新西兰，但近两年来北京对澳洲大麦、牛肉和海产的经济惩罚，也让澳洲感同身受。“我曾经与中国签署自由贸易协定，当然其中的约定包括了在对待香港和台湾问题上保持‘一个中国’的观点。” JOHN KEY说。
平壤又射导弹 北京“露骨地包庇朝鲜”
朝鲜问题一直是美中权力交锋另一个战场。11月18日，朝鲜不顾国际社会的警告，再次试射了一枚洲际弹道导弹，令美国与APEC领导人在峰会议程之外举行紧急磋商。
日本和韩国军方认为，朝鲜当天发射的“火星-17”型洲际弹道导弹（ICBM）打击范围可覆盖美国全境，其导弹技术已取得相当进展。《韩联社》援引韩国联合参谋本部的消息报道说，射程可达1万5千公里的“火星-17”型导弹采用多弹头分导式载具，一旦在目标上空成功完成弹头分离，可同步打击华盛顿和纽约。
今年以来，在国际社会关注焦点大多集中在乌俄战争以及美中关系急剧恶化之际，朝鲜进行了创纪录的80多次导弹试射，在最新的这次洲际弹道导弹试射之后，朝鲜实施第七次核试验的可能性进一步加大。
据报道，美国总统拜登和韩国总统尹锡悦在二十国集团峰会期间会晤中国领导人习近平时，都再次敦促中国在遏制朝鲜核威胁方面发挥更积极、更具建设性的作用。然而，观察人士注意到，习近平对此有意完全回避。在美中关系急剧恶化的大背景之下，中国越来越倾向于袒护朝鲜，他正试图用手中的权力让美国忌惮。
联合国安理会本月初曾就朝鲜频繁进行导弹试射问题进行了审议，在中国和俄罗斯的反对之下，安理会无法对朝鲜加强制裁。美国驻联合国代表格林菲尔德（Linda Thomas-Greenfield）指出，安理会15个成员国中有13个同意谴责朝鲜自今年以来的导弹试验，而中国和俄罗斯“不遗余力”地为朝鲜进行辩护。

澳新社称，在阿尔巴尼斯和习“握手言合”之后，经济可以重新启动，但对于中国的人权问题，澳洲政府不能忽视不理。而ABC也在国际峰会结束后发表文章称，峰会在贸易、人权和外交等方面，习近平的中国仍然无法掩饰与西方社会的鸿沟。澳媒分析称，在为期9天的会议中，有些问题被“刻意”地遗忘了，有专家表示，在这个让中国与西方社会握手言和的机会中，会“刺痛”中国的话题明显被忽略了。
“历史不是过去，它更像悬在未来头上的利剑；西方没有历史，只有时间和事件，”ABC的报道分析称，“但是对习近平和普京来说，历史是融在血液、长在骨子里的。阿尔巴尼斯与拜登是无法了解中国或是习近平，因为他们生长在西方，眼睛看到的只有未来。”
历史对西方世界来说，就是宝库，收藏在博物馆，西方社会在面对历史性的伤痕时，谈论的是如何面对悲剧、如何补偿、如何安排好未来，例如澳洲原住民 “被偷走的一代人” 的悲剧。但是，当面对中国和习近平的时候，阿尔巴尼斯不会明白，历史对中国人来说是一个记忆和权力；西方国家不可能看见中国在任何历史事件上出来妥协或弥补，1989年的天安门事件被西方媒体定为“屠杀”，这段历史对于中国政府来说，永远不可能出面承认，因为这是一个权力的记忆。同样的，习近平在表达对台湾看法的时候，他提出的不是对这个岛屿未来的安排和要求，他宣示的是泱泱大国的身份和历史主权。
