谈到怎样让英语写作拿到高分，具体来谈三天三夜也谈不完。众所周知的方法包括扩充词汇量、增强文章叙事感、注意使用连接词、重视前后逻辑通顺、语言生动活泼不单调等。
但其实有个“六字口诀”也十分重要，听起来简单，然而很多老师都会在课堂上反复强调。
这六字口诀便是：“阅读！阅读！阅读！”（read read read）
你可能好奇，这六个字明明妇孺皆知，究竟有什么神奇的魔力呢？
打个比方：没有人只运动而不吃饭，也没有人只呼气而不吸气。写作也是如此，所有高分学霸都是从阅读和模仿练习开始的。
说到这里，许多小伙伴可能不乐意了：“我也成天看英文书籍呀，看过的书都能堆到膝盖了，怎么还不见成绩提升？” 其实这里指的阅读是有讲究的，既不是快餐式阅览八卦头条，也不是盲目追求数量，而是一边读，一边深究、分析并举一反三，这样才能快速提升写作能力。
举例说明，譬如“Despite its immensity, it is both simple and elegant, fulfilling its designer’s dream to create an enormous object drawn as faintly as possible. ” 这句话，很多学生读后都能理解其意，大致为“尽管它很大，但它既简单又优雅，实现了设计者的梦想，即创造一个尽可能模糊的巨大物体。” 看起来也不是高深莫测的句子。但如果深究，就能挖到许多点：
1、虽然大家都知道“Despite”是“尽管”或“即使”的意思，但你是否会犯在后面多加“but”的语法错误呢？ 这是一部分中文背景学生容易犯的习惯性错误。
2、“fulfilling its designer’s dream”使用状语从句，使整个句子不那么单调。
3、“drawn as faintly as possible”是一个定语从句。
原本可能要写成琐碎的多个短句，却因共同事物连接为同一个句子，显得简练不啰嗦。
又如在表达因果逻辑关系时，我们可以学习《经济学人》网站上《金融市场进入危险新阶段》（Financial markets enter a dangerous new phase）这篇文章的一句话：
“In Britain government-bond yields have surged (see chart) and sterling has slumped, prompting the Treasury and Bank of England to issue statements attempting to soothe markets. ”
其中，“prompting the Treasury and Bank of England to issue statements”是状语从句，表明政府债券收益率飙升引发的后果；“attempting to soothe markets”是从句中的从句，表明发表声明的目的。
整句干脆流畅。日后，若想表达某个现象导致某机构或某人采取何种措施时，也可使用“…prompting someone to do sth…”这类句式。
对一些饱含诗意的句子，我们也可以进行分析。譬如作家文德琳·范·德拉安南（Wendelin Van Draanen）在《怦然心动》书中云：
“Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss. But every once in a while you find someone who’s iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.” （有人住高楼，有人处深沟，有人光万丈，有人一身锈，世人万千种，浮云莫去求，斯人若彩虹，遇上方知有。）
中文写作老师都强调过排比的重要性，其实英文也是如此。与其选用参差不齐的表达，不如采用“in flat”、“in satin”、“in gloss”、“in a while”这样类似排比的修辞手法，显得文采斐然。
以上寥举三例，那么经常边阅读边思考还会对写作带来哪些帮助呢？
1、增强语感
很多不是ABC的华人小孩半路转来澳洲中小学，处在英文和中文间随时要切换的状态，此时培养语感是至关重要的。语感即语言感受力，是在长期的语言实践中形成的对语言文字敏锐、丰富的感受领悟能力，是对特定环境中的话语不经过逻辑推理，直接迅速整体感知和把握。欲培养语感，大量阅读及有智慧地阅读不可或缺。
2、提升学习兴趣
所有学生想必都不喜欢成天只是背单词、背语法，那么要想提升兴趣，阅读一些有趣的书籍或文章是绝佳的办法，毕竟谁不喜欢读故事呢？
3、补充文化背景知识
在阅读时，经常会看到英美澳历史、文学知识、英语国家的风土人情和宗教信仰等。入乡随俗，学一个国家的语言就要像那个国家的人，常阅读能补充文化背景知识，久而久之，对改善写作也有帮助。
4、使作文更有逻辑
常阅读佳作并分析其逻辑架构的过程中可以观察作者的逻辑思维，思考怎样做到不偏题或转折不突兀，日后在写作时能少出一些逻辑漏洞。
