澳航发言人说，飞行员在收到“故障提示”后遵循了标准程序，工程师也开始检查飞机。
澳航表示，该飞机正常着陆，而不是一次紧急着陆。
发言人还称：“我们感谢乘客的耐心，我们正在努力让他们尽快踏上前往斐济的行程。”
这是本周涉及澳航的第二次突发事件。1月18日下午，一架从奥克兰飞往悉尼的澳航飞机引擎在空中出现故障，随后飞行员发出求救信号，该航班安全降落在悉尼。
据《每日电讯报》报导，当日下午3点29分，这架QF144 波音737-838双引擎飞机在悉尼机场安全降落，其右侧引擎上破了一个长方形大洞，洞大到可以从外面看到内部构造，引擎外层也出现扭曲。
澳航发言人说，在距离悉尼1个小时航程的地方，飞行员发现故障后按照标准程序发出求救信号，引擎在飞行之中失灵是很少见的，但飞行员接受过训练，飞机也可以在只有一个引擎的情况下持续飞行。
澳航副机师兼澳大利亚与国际飞行员协会（AIPA）副主席Mark Hofmeyer告诉ACM，发求救信号是最佳做法。
Hofmeyer说，求救信号将使飞机离开周围的空域，在知晓损失程度前，对飞行员来说是一个负责任的呼叫。
他指出，这种情况下可能没有足够的时间评估到底发生了什么事。
