新州政府1月1日开始推行新移动测速摄像头法规，但新规施行中出现重大失误，导致该州近四分之三的移动测速车无法工作。政府将改造无法装备警告标志的移动测速车，预计年中前完工。
据《每日电讯报》报导，由于新州超速罚款激增引起公愤，自1月1日起，州政府通过议会决定为所有移动测速摄像头车辆重新安装警告标志，然而在该州所有143辆移动测速车中有105辆无法安装警告标志，所以目前全州只有38辆测速车在运行。
政府将对剩余无法装备警告标志的移动测速车进行升级改造，改造计划预计在四月底完成。
为减少超速或与其相关的交通事故，新州曾在2020年立法规移除标志，但在这条法规施行后，超速罚款迅速增加，12个月内的罚款总额超过 4500 万澳元。
今年年初，反对党领袖Chris Minns称其为“巨额的财政收入增长”。他说： “新州政府简直是直接从澳人的口袋里取钱，从每年只收取约400万澳币的（超速）罚款，到现在仅在一个财年就可以收入（超过）4500 万澳元。”
新州交通厅副厅长Tara McCarthy在一次预算听证会上指出了重新启用警告标志法规的障碍：原先测速车中至少有47辆日产奇骏因车型太小，无法安装旧警告标志。
McCarthy表示，车辆供应商更改了供应车辆的型号，其中有些新车车型对比车队中的旧车车型更小，警告标志非常重，因此把它完好地固定到原本就满载摄像头等设备的车上是十分困难的。
McCarthy女士还表示，交通厅因此将对这些车进行深度改装，或完全将其替换为另一型号。在听证会上，新州政府并未提出具体的车辆改装预算。
